What is an MOT?
An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test applies to most cars aged 3 years or more in the United Kingdom.
The MOT test does not prove a car is mechnically sound; rather, it proves certain aspects of a vehicle's performance - such as its emissions or safety features - perform to certain standards defined by the Ministry of Transport.
Approved MOT test centres must to display the blue 'three triangles' motif.
Exceptions to the MOT rule
Certain types of vehicles require an MOT annually after their first year. These include ambulances, taxis and vehicles that can carry more than 9 passengers.
